Spring is on its way but we\u2019ve still got to cop a few more weeks of crisp mornings and chilly evenings.&nbsp;\n\nWhen you get home from a long day battling the elements, few things are as comforting as a big bowl of soup. It\u2019s basically a hug in a bowl. Plus, it\u2019ll keep until lunch tomorrow and will last through the week if you put it in the freezer.&nbsp;\n\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 100%; height: 100%;\" class=\"media-element file-default nova-lazyload-image-wrapper lz-cont img-responsive\" data-delta=\"1\" src=\"https:\/\/cms.smooth.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/screen_shot_2019-08-22_at_3.12.56_pm-3.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1197\" height=\"792\">\n\n<strong>Serves<\/strong>: 6&nbsp;\n\n<strong>Prep time<\/strong>: 15 minutes\n\n<strong>Cook time<\/strong>: 50 minutes\n<div><strong>Ingredients<\/strong>:<\/div>\n<ul>\n \t<li>1 tablespoon of coconut oil or good quality animal fat<\/li>\n \t<li>6 paleo beef sausages<\/li>\n \t<li>2 onions, chopped<\/li>\n \t<li>2 slices of rindless bacon, chopped<\/li>\n \t<li>3 garlic cloves, sliced<\/li>\n \t<li>2 celery stalks, sliced<\/li>\n \t<li>2 carrots, cut into 5mm slices<\/li>\n \t<li>1 turnip, cut into 1cm cubes<\/li>\n \t<li>3 litres of beef or chicken bone broth<\/li>\n \t<li>\u00bd teaspoon ground turmeric<\/li>\n \t<li>\u00bd teaspoon ground cumin<\/li>\n \t<li>2 zucchinis, cut into 1cm cubes<\/li>\n \t<li>300g pumpkin, cut into 2cm pieces<\/li>\n \t<li>2 large handfuls of silverbeet leaves, stalks removed, roughly chopped<\/li>\n \t<li>Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper<\/li>\n \t<li>Juice of 1 lemon<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<strong>Method<\/strong>:\n\nHeat the oil or fat in a large saucepan over a medium to high heat. Add the sausages and cook for 8 minutes, turning occasionally to brown all over and cooked through.\n\nRemove from the pan and, when cool enough to handle, cut into 2cm pieces.\n\nReduce the heat to medium, add the onion and bacon to the pan and cook, stirring often, for 5 minutes until soft. Add the garlic, celery, carrot and turnip. Pour in the broth, stir in the turmeric and cumin and bring to the boil.\n\nReduce the heat to medium\u2013low, cover and simmer for 15 minutes.\n\nAdd the zucchini and pumpkin to the pan and cook for a further 15 minutes, or until the zucchini and pumpkin are soft.\n\nStir in the silverbeet and sausages and continue to cook for 5 minutes or until heated through.\n\nSeason with salt and pepper and stir through the lemon juice.
