Let\u2019s be honest, it\u2019s a parent\u2019s worst nightmare.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Asthma is particularly prevalent in children and recognising the symptoms early could save a life.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><u><strong>What to look out for:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Wheezing, coughing or chest tightness at night.<\/li>\n<li>Asthma symptoms when they wake up in the morning.<\/li>\n<li>If your child is using their reliever multiple times per week.<\/li>\n<li>If their asthma is interfering with normal activities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u><strong>How to recognise an asthma attack:<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>They are suffering from increased wheezing, cough, chest tightness and shortness of breath.<\/li>\n<li>They\u2019re waking up during the night with a shortness of breath.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>They\u2019re using their reliever more than once every three hours.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u><strong>Call an ambulance if:<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Their symptoms get worse very quickly.<\/li>\n<li>They are suffering severe shortness of breath, can\u2019t speak comfortably or their lips are looking blue.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>They receive little or no relief from their reliever inhaler.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>A written asthma action plan will help you recognise when symptoms are worsening and reduce the risk of an attack.
