{"id":1978,"date":"2019-02-16T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-02-16T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cms.smooth.com.au\/uncategorised\/australia-is-getting-hotter-average-autumn-this-year\/"},"modified":"2019-02-16T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2019-02-16T00:00:00","slug":"australia-is-getting-hotter-average-autumn-this-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cms.smooth.com.au\/lifestyle\/australia-is-getting-hotter-average-autumn-this-year\/","title":{"rendered":"Australia is getting a hotter-than-average Autumn this year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Australian summer has felt a little like this:&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"362\" width=\"500\" style=\"width: 100%; height: 100%;\" class=\"media-element file-media-original nova-lazyload-image-wrapper lz-cont img-responsive\" data-delta=\"2\" src=\"https:\/\/cms.smooth.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/spongebob_hot-3.gif\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Autumn is set to start in less than two weeks and we\u2019re ready for some cooler temperatures.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>But just when we thought we could swap our sunscreen for light cardigans, the Bureau of Meteorology released their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bom.gov.au\/climate\/outlooks\/#\/overview\/summary\" target=\"_top\">climate outlook for the 2019 March to May period<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And friends, it\u2019s not what we hoped.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Instead of mild evening breezes it looks like we\u2019ll be getting more heat than we usually see at this time of year.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Yep, the sticky nights and high aircon bills are set to continue.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s the fancy looking map for you:&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"765\" width=\"1200\" style=\"width: 100%; height: 100%;\" class=\"media-element file-default nova-lazyload-image-wrapper lz-cont img-responsive\" data-delta=\"1\" src=\"https:\/\/cms.smooth.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/bomchanceautumn2019-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s a lot of red.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Basically the graph shows that if you live in Mainland Australia there&#8217;s an 80 percent chance you&#8217;ll experience autumn temperatures that are significantly warmer than the average.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We can hear you asking, \u201cbut what is the average?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The average daily maximum temperature for March sits at around the mid 20s for all major cities.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s 24.2 degrees in Melbourne, 24.8 in Sydney and 29.1 in Brisbane.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In May, it&#8217;s around 16.7 degrees for Melbourne, with 19.5 for Sydney and 24.5 for Brisbane.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The BOM is forecasting that we&#8217;ll see warmer than that across the next few months. Which means a mild 24 degree day in Sydney will instead be in the high 30s.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"240\" width=\"320\" style=\"width: 100%; height: 100%;\" class=\"media-element file-media-original nova-lazyload-image-wrapper lz-cont img-responsive\" data-delta=\"3\" src=\"https:\/\/cms.smooth.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/fun_0-3.gif\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The weather will also be dryer than usual, which is bad news for rural areas and farmers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>NSW is familiar with these kind of conditions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Last year NSW had their second-warmest autumn on record.
