{"id":2439,"date":"2018-11-23T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2018-11-23T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cms.smooth.com.au\/uncategorised\/tim-allens-santa-clause-film-was-meant-have-more-sinister-start\/"},"modified":"2018-11-23T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2018-11-23T00:00:00","slug":"tim-allens-santa-clause-film-was-meant-have-more-sinister-start","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cms.smooth.com.au\/entertainment\/tim-allens-santa-clause-film-was-meant-have-more-sinister-start\/","title":{"rendered":"Tim Allen&#8217;s \u2018Santa Clause\u2019 film was meant to have a more sinister start"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you like Christmas movies and you\u2019re a 90s baby (or if you were just raised to know what makes film GOLD) then you\u2019ve probably seen <em>&#8216;Santa Clause&#8217;<\/em>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If you haven&#8217;t then SHAME ON YOU.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"280\" width=\"500\" style=\"width: 100%; height: 100%;\" class=\"media-element file-media-original nova-lazyload-image-wrapper lz-cont img-responsive\" data-delta=\"1\" src=\"https:\/\/cms.smooth.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/shame_got_gif.gif\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The basic gist of the film (for the uncultured among you) is that a dude called Scott Calvin (AKA Tim Allen) puts on Santa Clause\u2019s suit after the real Santa falls off his roof delivering the goods.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Tim\u2019s character is transported to the North Pole where he is slowly transformed into Santa (helloooo luscious white beard) and his Christmas spirit is restored.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>But, in an appearance on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Fc7f9keSrfM\" target=\"_top\"><em>The Tonight Show<\/em><\/a>, Tim revealed that the start of the popular Christmas film was originally meant to be more sinister.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Instead of Santa innocently slipping off the roof and vanishing (*cough* dying *cough*) in a magical puff of smoke, Tim\u2019s character was meant to shoot and kill our favourite man in red.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe original Santa Clause is a little darker, written by two comedians, and I actually shot and killed Santa, in the original movie. He fell off the roof because I thought he was a burglar,\u201d Allen explained on the show.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"315\" width=\"560\" style=\"width: 100%; height: 100%;\" class=\"media-element file-media-original nova-lazyload-image-wrapper lz-cont img-responsive\" data-delta=\"2\" src=\"https:\/\/cms.smooth.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/youre_a_monster_gingi_shrek_gif.gif\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" \/><\/p>\n\n<p>While on the show Allen then went on to explain why the murderous start was scrapped for a more PG13 version:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe head of Disney at the time, (Jeffrey) Katzenberg said, \u2018Well, we can\u2019t start a movie like that,\u2019 and I said, \u2018Why not?\u2019 And he said, \u2018We can\u2019t start a Disney movie with you murdering Santa,\u2019\u201d Allen recalled.<\/p>\n<p>True dat.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Is it even a Disney film if it doesn\u2019t have magical characters and talking animals all tied together with a fancy bow?&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t answer that.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, the decision was definitely the right one as <em>\u2018Santa Clause\u2019 <\/em>turned out to be one of the best Christmas films of ALL TIME*.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"138\" width=\"245\" style=\"width: 100%; height: 100%;\" class=\"media-element file-media-original nova-lazyload-image-wrapper lz-cont img-responsive\" data-delta=\"3\" src=\"https:\/\/cms.smooth.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/kanye_taylor_vmas_gif.gif\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>*Second only to <em>Elf<\/em>.
