Optus added 384,000 new mobile subscribers for the year as of March 31, 2018. However, the telco&#8217;s average revenue per user for the year has slipped from $46 to $44.<\/p>\n\n<p>Optus boss Allen Lew spoke to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theaustralian.com.au\/business\/technology\/optus-to-phase-out-virgin-mobile-200-jobs-to-go-36-stores-to-shut\/news-story\/82c811029dd7f58ff13ad2f815fe36f3\"><em>The Australian&nbsp;<\/em><\/a>last week and said they had to get their costs down to remain competitive.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By shutting down Virgin Mobile, they Optus will remove the branding&nbsp;licence&nbsp;fee they pay to Virgin Mobile.<\/p>\n<p>There will not be any disruption for Virgin Mobile customers with a spokesperson saying:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cWe will be contacting them in the coming days to let them know more about the changes and their future options.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The news comes as Optus was hit with a $1.5 million fine after pressuring customers to move to the NBN sooner than required.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The telco is reportedly going to look into whether some staff members can be reassigned to Optus stores.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cFor Virgin Mobile employees, our policy is always to talk to those who may be impacted by these changes first&#8230; Any potential options for redeployment within the wider Optus business will be discussed with affected individuals at that time.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><em>Image: PHILIPPE HUGUEN\/AFP\/Getty Images<\/em><\/p>\r\n\r\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Thirty-six stores to shut.&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":14,"featured_media":3391,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[215],"tags":[],"geo_market":[],"class_list":["post-3390","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v27.3 (Yoast SEO v27.3) -
