Perhaps like most of us, you have boxes and bags filled with items ready to depart your abode\u2026 but hidden in a store cupboard? We ALL often have bags of electrical chargers hidden on shelves for safekeeping, or garages full of double-ups, or the greatest consumer trick of all time –  goods left unopened and untouched that still have a second life left in them! Don’t worry, we are all in the same boat\u2026<\/p>\n

Whether it’s in the spirit of minimalism, letting go, cleaning up, moving on, or giving back to others, we have put together a few ideas to help you take a second look around your home.<\/p>\n

Start organising<\/strong><\/p>\n

Celebrated 19th designer and poet, William Morris, once remarked “Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful”. It’s solid advice when evaluating the collection of items in your home and a great system to wade through the chaos. If IT hasn’t been used in the last 12 months, or not something bringing you peace or joy, then consider it again!<\/p>\n

Going out of style<\/strong><\/p>\n

Perhaps you realised that your own personal style developed over time? It could be clothes or furniture around your home! Whether it’s casual, formal, occasional, or professional attire, clothes are easy to accumulate overtime. It’s not just that kids grow up and our body changes, but our tastes change too. So, there are no excuses to check in with yourself and ponder whether that spare pair of slacks that served a purpose by giving you a confidence boost five years ago could probably do the same for someone else now.<\/p>\n

Look locally and find a charity that accepts donations <\/strong><\/p>\n

Determine whether the items are useful and still have a second life left in them! Our homes are often a marketplace of unused items, thanks to a lifetime of collecting clothing, accessories, books, furniture, manchester, homewares and whitegoods. If you have clean and gently-loved items that are no longer wanted, consider reaching out to a charity such as Brotherhood of St Laurence<\/a>, and earn some good karma points for letting your goods live on in the hands of others. <\/p>\n

A reason, a season, or a lifetime<\/strong><\/p>\n

Like all things in life, the perceived value we place on then can be better assisted by an awareness of whether it a) served it’s purpose; b) fulfilled it’s function at the time, or c) perhaps it has a lifelong sentimental attachment.
