With the arrival of Cinco De Mayo (also known as tequila\u2019s unofficial day of appreciation\u2026 by us) it\u2019s no surprise that we\u2019ve got Mexico\u2019s national liquor, tequila on the brain. <\/p>\n\n

It\u2019s a well-loved spirit by many (of course it is, it\u2019s the booze that gave us Margaritas) and now we have another reason to praise the festive drink\u2026 <\/p>\n\n

According to a new study completed by Science Daily<\/em><\/a>, the plant used to make tequila – the blue agave plant \u2013 can help your body absorb calcium and magnesium, both of which are great for bone health.  <\/p>\n

The study, which was completed at the Center for Research and Advanced Studies in Mexico looked at the effect the blue agave plant has on the bones of mice and well, the results were pretty astounding. <\/p>\n

The mice that were given fructans from blue agave had the diameter of their bones grow and they also produced 50 per cent more osteocalcin (a protein linked to the growth of bones) than the mice who did not ingest the plant. <\/p>\n

The <\/em>Independent<\/em> <\/a>reports that the findings are so profound that they may be used for studies of treatment options for osteoporosis.<\/p>\n

So with that said, this is what we\u2019ve deduced\u2026<\/p>\n

The blue agave plant is good for your bones. Strong bones are good for your health. Tequila is made from blue agave; tequila is medicine*<\/em>.<\/p>\n
