Tuesday night\u2019s episode of The Project <\/em>was a special one, celebrating the launch of co-host Carrie Bickmore\u2019s new range of beanies, under her charity, Carrie\u2019s Beanies 4 Brain Cancer. <\/p>\n\n

While the show offered its fair share of laughs with panellist Tommy Little deciding to bungee jump starkers<\/a> in the name of fundraising (\u00af\\_(\u30c4)_\/\u00af) and Steve Price attempting to give stand up comedy a go, with a tragic topic like brain cancer at its core, it\u2019s no surprise the episode took an emotional turn.<\/p>\n\n

\u201cBrain cancer kills more people under 40 than any other cancer, more children in this country than any other disease. Approximately 1,600 Australians are diagnosed each year and out of that 1,600 <\/em>it<\/em> is estimated that 1,300 will die from the disease.\u201d Waleed Aly told audiences. <\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cCurrently there is no cure. And it bears <\/em>repeating,<\/em> because it\u2019s scandalous; survival rates have not changed in 30 years.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Bickmore continued:<\/p>\n

\u201cBut as shocking as those statistics are, they are just statistics. They don\u2019t convey the bravery, the determination and the fight of those who have battled and are currently battling brain cancer.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The team then introduced viewers to \u201cthe faces of brain cancer\u201d<\/em> with a moving segment showing a number of everyday people who have fought, or are currently fighting the disease. The footage was aired as Aussie music icon Katie Noonan performed a touching rendition of \u2018This Is Me\u2019. <\/p>\n

In lighter news, however, the show finished up by announcing a whopping $2,100,000 was raised for the charity – yay!<\/p>\n\n
