Channel Seven host Johanna Griggs herself criticised the ceremony live on air.<\/p>\n
When cameras crossed back to Johanna and co-host Basil Zempilas seconds after Sunday night\u2019s broadcast wrapped the pair wasted no time in sharing their feelings:<\/p>\n
\u201cLook, we understand many people have been disappointed by tonight\u2019s Closing Ceremony,\u201d Zempilas told viewers. <\/em><\/p>\n
\u201cTo be perfectly honest Jo, so have we. It hasn\u2019t really lived up to expectations. I\u2019ve got to say it\u2019s about the only thing they got wrong. They did get it wrong tonight.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
Viewers have criticised performances, formalities and most of all, the decision to not show the athletes \u2014 or flag bearer Kurt Fearnley \u2014 entering the stadium.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m sorry, you\u2019re being way too polite,\u201d Griggs said to Basil.<\/em><\/p>\n
\u201cPeople are thinking that Channel Seven has chosen not to show pictures of athletes or not to show the flag bearer, Kurt Fearnley … We can only show the pictures that are provided by the actual host broadcasters. <\/em><\/p>\n
They made the decision not to have athletes enter the stadium. I\u2019m furious. Actually wrecking a tradition that is so important … You want to see the athletes come in. You want to see them jumping in front of camera. You want to see them celebrating 11 days of great sport. We missed out on all of that.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n
