The travel industry has been thrown a curve ball if ever there was one after the Philippines government announced its decision to shut down the island of Boracay for six months, starting on April 26th.<\/p>\n\n
As news.com.au <\/a>has reported, the strain of the island\u2019s incredible popularity has led to serious sewage problems that have long called for attention. <\/p>\n\n Philippines president Rodrigo Duterte made the call to shut the island down to tourists, uprooting the travel plans (and destination weddings) of thousands of people in the process. <\/p>\n In a statement, The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade<\/a> has advised travellers to contact their airline, hotel, travel agent or tour operator for details, as a long list of services will be disrupted as a result of the announcement. <\/p>\n\n The two faces of Boracay.
