As promised, <\/em><\/a>New Idea <\/em><\/a>has published an exclusive interview with the Uber driver who overheard a heated phone conversation between Channel Nine presenters and brothers, Peter and Karl Stefanovic. <\/p>\n\n

The controversial reveal comes just one day after the Stefanovics released a public apology directed at Karl\u2019s co-host Georgie Gardner and other colleagues at Channel Nine. <\/p>\n

In a statement published by The Daily Telegraph<\/em><\/a>, Karl said Georgie was \u201cthe best thing to happen to the show in years\u201d<\/em>:<\/p>\n

\u201c[Peter and I] talk a hundred times a day and hardly ever about work.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cBut we did, and the conversation was recorded. And we are sorry. I was angry with myself at first that I could be so stupid\u2026 I’ll be taking cabs from now on.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cI have spoken directly to the people involved and have offered my sincerest apologies as I have been raised to do: Do something wrong, apologise and try to move on.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Peter\u2019s statement added:<\/p>\n

\u201cI did a silly thing and feel awful for any embarrassment I\u2019ve brought to my [Channel 9] colleagues, who I deeply respect.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n

Today, we\u2019ve learnt that there was actually no recording made of the conversation between the Stefanovics, with the Uber driver telling New Idea<\/em> that:<\/p>\n

\u201cI don’t have a dash cam… I don’t even know how to record something on my phone.\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The unnamed driver told the mag that Peter and his wife Sylvia Jeffreys jumped into the cab when Peter called Karl and had a conversation with him on loudspeaker. <\/p>\n

The driver accused Karl of telling Peter that his co-host Georgie \u201cdidn\u2019t have enough opinions and he wanted her to step up\u201d<\/em>. <\/p>\n

\u201cHe actually sounded angry and said he was going to start pushing hard and that she needed to do that if she wanted to stay on the show,\u201d the driver alleged. <\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

As New Idea<\/em> has reported, the driver also stated that he heard Karl accuse higher-ups at Nine of being “out of touch”<\/em>.<\/p>\n

It has been specified that Sylvia was not involved in the conversation. <\/p>\n

A Channel Nine spokesperson weighed in on Sunday (before the interview was released), acknowledging the unprofessionalism of the Stefanovics while suggesting it was all just childish behaviour:<\/p>\n

\u201cClearly it was school behaviour between brothers but that\u2019s no excuse.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
