Comedian and writer Tina Fey is taking Mean Girls back to the big screen, with a new movie based on the Broadway musical of the same name.<\/p>\n
The 30 Rock star helped to adapt her 2004 teen comedy for the stage in 2017, and now she is working on turning the theatre production into a feature film for Paramount Pictures.<\/p>\n
And honestly, words cannot describe how PUMPED we are for this.<\/p>\n
Fey will produce the new project with her former Saturday Night Live boss, Lorne Michaels, who previously helped to develop the original Mean Girls movie, which starred Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams, and its musical incarnation.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m very excited to bring Mean Girls back to the big screen,\u201d Fey shared in a statement.<\/em><\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s been incredibly gratifying to see how much the movie and the musical have meant to audiences. I\u2019ve spent 16 years with these characters now. They are my Marvel Universe, and I love them dearly.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
Casting information has yet to be revealed, but Fey\u2019s husband, composer Jeff Richmond, and lyricist Nell Benjamin will take charge of the movie\u2019s music.<\/p>\n
The film announcement coincides with the news that the Mean Girls musical will head to London\u2019s West End in the spring of 2021, three years after it opened on Broadway.<\/p>\n
