The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are set to head Down Under to visit towns affected by the bushfire crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Negotiations for the visit have reportedly been underway between the government and the royal household for weeks, with the Prime Minister expected to issue a formal invitation to William and Kate this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The royal couple last visited Australia together in 2014 with their son, while William previously toured disaster-stricken areas of Australia in the aftermath of the 2011 Queensland flood crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The visit has the potential to spur more financial support for survivors and volunteer firefighters affected by the destruction, which has sparked global protests due to the link between climate change and extreme weather disasters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Members of the Royal family issued statements of shock and despair over the unprecedented destruction of Australia\u2019s bushfire season earlier this year, warning climate change was pushing humankind towards a \u201ctipping point\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Prince William said the bushfires highlight a growing ecological disaster, as the royal family announced a climate crusade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cEither we continue as we are and irreparably damage our planet, or we remember our unique power as human beings and our continual ability to lead, innovate and problem solve,\u201d he said.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
It is not yet known how extensive the royal tour will be, but the couple are expected to visit New South Wales and Victoria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
More than 30 lives have been lost to date in the 2019-2020 bushfire season, and over 2000 homes destroyed. The cost to the environment is unclear, but more than one billion animals are believed to have been killed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
