I thought I\u2019d tried everything from early nights to morning exercise classes to chilled coffee at the sound of the first alarm. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was the beginning of February and I still hadn\u2019t made it to a morning gym session. Countless cancellations later and I was still waking up as bloody exhausted as when my head hit the pillow. Worse still, my morning sleepiness was creeping into the afternoon and my annual coffee counter was almost at triple figures. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\t<div class=\"wp-block-jetpack-gif aligncenter\">\n\t\t<figure>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"wp-block-jetpack-gif-wrapper\" style=\"padding-top:76%\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<iframe src=\"https:\/\/giphy.com\/embed\/jSQHjbT1WHYYw\" title=\"https:\/\/media.giphy.com\/media\/jSQHjbT1WHYYw\/giphy.gif\"><\/iframe>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/figure>\n\t<\/div>\n\t\n\n\n<p>I\u2019d heard that successful people wake up at the crack of dawn. I decided to try my best to become a morning person and actually get up at the sound of my alarm. It\u2019s hard to break a habit, but it\u2019s possible. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Ask your morning person pals for advice<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Their suggestions weren\u2019t surprising\u2026 but selective hearing played a huge part in my desire to actually take on their suggestions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I committed to a morning Pilates class with my housemate. Better still, the cancellation fee was astronomical without a medical certificate and how the heck would I get my hands on one of those at 5.30am? Holding ourselves accountable (to each other and the cop out fee) would work\u2026 surely?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes, actually. We kept to our word. We managed three out of five mornings during the week. We work in the same suburb too, so we decided to walk in on those morning we\u2019re not at class. <\/p>\n\n\n\t<div class=\"wp-block-jetpack-gif aligncenter\">\n\t\t<figure>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"wp-block-jetpack-gif-wrapper\" style=\"padding-top:100%\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<iframe src=\"https:\/\/giphy.com\/embed\/cMVh0fe2dv93SvSQh6\" title=\"https:\/\/media.giphy.com\/media\/cMVh0fe2dv93SvSQh6\/giphy.gif\"><\/iframe>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/figure>\n\t<\/div>\n\t\n\n\n<p>The first few starts were chronically difficult but the subsequent endorphin rush was enough for us to want to keep up the routine. An added perk was the coffee and croissant we\u2019d pick up on the way. We were up early and feeling fab. Now I feel bad getting the tram into work. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Build an emotional connection with your early start<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019re getting out of bed to exercise, sure. But you\u2019re also getting out of bed to <a href=\"https:\/\/cms.smooth.com.au\/lifestyle\/health-beauty\/\">feel better and get more done<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When it\u2019s time to get up, remember why you\u2019re trying to become a morning person. It\u2019ll help soften the blow of the pre-dawn wake up calls. Break the intense emotional connection you have with your bed and replace it with an intense emotional connection with the day\u2019s potential. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Wake up to natural light, not rattling alarms<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>My room fronts onto a busy street so the luxury of leaving my curtains open isn\u2019t an option. My curtains are mighty thick so I wake up to a pitch black bedroom, even in the middle of summer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Enough was enough. I decided to invest in a sunrise alarm clock to awaken me with light rather than sounds. Light therapy alarm clocks slowly emit light for thirty minutes before your desired wake up time. They\u2019re designed to give you a sweet, slow wake up \u2014 far more pleasant that the startled awakening provided by noisy, rattling alarm clocks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I hoped that would break my morning cranky streak and surprise, surprise \u2014&nbsp;it actually kind of did. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Check in on your sleep health<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>If you wake up feeling sluggush and tired, it might be worth investigating why. <\/p>\n\n\n\t<div class=\"wp-block-jetpack-gif aligncenter\">\n\t\t<figure>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"wp-block-jetpack-gif-wrapper\" style=\"padding-top:75%\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<iframe src=\"https:\/\/giphy.com\/embed\/3orieKhpoa2Kd80Koo\" title=\"https:\/\/media.giphy.com\/media\/3orieKhpoa2Kd80Koo\/giphy.gif\"><\/iframe>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/figure>\n\t<\/div>\n\t\n\n\n<p>Sleep Apnoea affects around 3 million Australians yet 80% of sufferers remain undiagnosed!
