The vibe is relaxed, the sun is almost always shining and the scenery is nothing short of breathtaking &#8211; only a hop, skip and a jump from Sydney CBD. Relax by the crystal waters or dive headfirst into a watersports lesson. Eat freshly caught seafood or drink locally brewed beer at one of the many fine restaurants throughout the region. Whatever you&#8217;re vibing, you&#8217;ll find it throughout Sydney&#8217;s Northern Beaches.&nbsp;<br><br \/>\n\t<strong>Surf&#8217;s up at Manly Beach&nbsp;<\/strong><br><br \/>\n\tDid you know the world&#8217;s first ever surfing championship with held at Manly Beach in 1964? Since then,&nbsp;things haven&#8217;t changed too much at Manly \u2013&nbsp;the water is still crystal clear and water sports are still widely practiced at a novice and professional level. Why not sign up for a surfing lesson at Manly Surf School or head out for a dive with The&nbsp;Dive&nbsp;Centre or EcoTreasures?<br><br \/>\n\tWander north from Manly to reach Freshwater Beach, another National Surfing Reserve (which is home to champions Barton Lynch and Layne Beachley).<br><br \/>\n\t<strong>Take a hike around Narrabeen Lagoon<\/strong><br><br \/>\n\tWander through the bushland in Narrabeen, a hiking trail popular with walkers, joggers and cyclists.&nbsp;You&#8217;ll pass through beautiful ecosystems, come face to face with native wildlife and immerse yourself in the pristine waterways and cultural heritage of Sydney&#8217;s Northern Beaches.&nbsp;<br><br \/>\n\tNarrabeen Lagoon stretches out over 8.6km (one way) and will take between two to three hours to walk. There are also shorter walking&nbsp;options if you&#8217;re not feeling the full hike.&nbsp;<br><br \/>\n\t<strong>Whalewatching at&nbsp;North Head<\/strong><br><br \/>\n\tHead to the southern-most tip of the Manly Peninsula to catch sight of the Pacific Ocean&#8217;s most majestic inhabitants. In total, Sydney has 38 vantage points from which to see whales, but we&#8217;d recommend North Head, Manly \u2013 tour operators offer education whale watching opportunities that deliver a spectacle and encourage conservation work.<br><br \/>\n\tOne thing to note \u2013 the best time to catch these amazing creatures in their element&nbsp;is during migration season (May to November).<br><br \/>\n\t<strong>Encounter local wildlife in Dee Why<\/strong><br><br \/>\n\tUpon the northern point of Sydney&#8217;s Dee Why sits&nbsp;a wildlife sanctuary, home to a menagerie of birds and wildlife. Dee Why Lagoon Wildlife Refuge sits upon the banks of Dee Why Lagoon and offers plenty of opportunities for walking and picnics.
