We’re used to the fast food giant, McDonald’s bringing us delicious junk food in our times of need.<\/p>\n\n
Well, it turns out the food may be more than just delicious.<\/p>\n\n
McDonald’s french fries might lead to a cure for baldness. But not by eating them.<\/p>\n
Researchers at Japan’s Yokohama National University used a chemical found in the fries to grow hair follicles on mice, according to a study published in the peer-reviewed journal Biomaterials.<\/p>\n
The chemical is put into the oil used to cook fries in order to prevent it from splattering.<\/p>\n
“These self-sorted hair follicle germs were shown to be capable of efficient hair-follicle and shaft generation upon intracutaneous transplantation into the backs of nude mice,” reads an excerpt from the study.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
Scientists were able to produce around 5000 \u201chair follicle germs\u201d using dimethylpolysiloxane. When these hair follicles were transplanted onto bald mice, new hair started to grow.<\/p>\n
Experts believe they can use this same method to on humans.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis simple method is very robust and promising. <\/em><\/p>\n
\u201cWe hope that this technique will improve human hair regenerative therapy to treat hair loss such as androgenic alopecia.\u201d said Junji Fukuda, one of the study\u2019s authors. <\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
Although researchers note more studies are required, the findings could lead to a potential strategy for hair regeneration.<\/p>\n
According to nutrition information found on McDonald’s website, dimethylpolysiloxane is used as an anti-foaming agent in the oil used to fry foods including french fries, Chicken McNuggets and fried fish sandwiches. <\/p>\n
