We feel like we know Madeleine West pretty well. She played Dee Bills on Neighbours <\/em>(you remember that iconic car accident scene after her wedding to Toadie) and most recently she played the boss woman Kath Rickards on Playing for Keeps.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

But today, instead of telling another character\u2019s story, she told her own in the first episode of West\u2019s podcast series: Invisible Heroes. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

West opened up about the 2002 horrific bus accident she was lucky to survive. Almost 18 years since the accident, she recalled  standing on a footpath in Sydney’s Oxford Street, having just bought a bag of snacks from a nearby convenience store, when the accident happened.The horrific accident resulted in three skull fractures, one which was leaking cerebral fluid into her mouth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the emotional episode West opens up about how she felt when she looked at herself after the mirror and her battle with allowing her brain to take its time to heal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf I\u2019m honest, I wanted to die,\u201d she shares.<\/em><\/p>

\u201cI thought that my career, my passion and the focal point which had sustained me for 15 years was done. <\/em><\/p>

\u201cI made the mistake of believing that the way I looked was the most important thing about me.That my appearance summed up my ability.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
