You shrug it off and carry on with your day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lucid dreaming is when you&#8217;re aware that you&#8217;re dreaming. It&#8217;s the mental act of recognising your reality as part of a dream narrative manufactured by your brain and subconscious. Sometimes you\u2019ll be able to control or change the environment or storyline. It typically happens during rapid eye movements (REM) and research shows <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthline.com\/health\/what-is-lucid-dreaming\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">55 per cent<\/a> of Aussies have experienced a lucid dream at some point in their life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sleep health is super important for our mental and physical health. It\u2019s key to maintaining healthy relationships and high performance in life and work. Here&#8217;s to feeling good all the time!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sleephealthfoundation.org.au\/files\/Asleep_on_the_job\/Asleep_on_the_Job_SHF_report-WEB_small.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">One in four<\/a> Aussies don\u2019t get enough sleep. Over recent years, there has been a huge conversation around sleep health. There&#8217;s also mounting evidence to show lucid dreaming can be hugely theraputic. It&#8217;s used to treat conditions such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthline.com\/health\/what-is-lucid-dreaming#interpreting-dreams\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">PTSD, nightmares and anxiety<\/a> and there are heaps of studies to show lucid dreaming can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthline.com\/health\/what-is-lucid-dreaming#interpreting-dreams\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">increase motor skills and enhance creativity<\/a>. More and more people are training themselves to harness lucid dreaming as a therapeutic tool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Get comfortable and buckle up: here are a few things you can do to help set yourself up for a lucid dream.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Reality testing<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This involves checking in with your environment during waking hours. Increasing your awareness during waking hours will work to enhance your awareness while dreaming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Press your fingers against your palm, look in a mirror or pinch your nose. Does everything behave and look as it should?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Keep a dream journal<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Keep a notebook by your bed and note down everything you remember as soon as you wake up. It\u2019ll help you stay conscious of dream signs and narratives well into the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Best be quick though \u2014 it doesn\u2019t take long for dream memories to disappear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Wake Back To Bed (WBTB)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Set an alarm for five hours after you fall asleep. When you wake up, try to stay awake for a short while. When you go back to sleep, you\u2019ll enter a REM phase of sleep where dreams are most likely to occur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Mnemonic Induction Of Lucid Dreams (MILD)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This one is similar to the WBTB technique. Set an alarm for five hours and when you wake up, imagine yourself in a lucid dream. Think about a \u2018dreamsign\u2019 or something strange that you remember from the dream. Repeat the phrase: \u201cNext time I\u2019m dreaming, I will remember I\u2019m dreaming\u201d.
