In a bonus episode of Invisible Heroes<\/em><\/a>, <\/em>Madeleine West interviews former homicide detective Gary Jubelin about his journey helping victims of some of the most high profile cases and his journey through his own appeal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over a 34 year career, the former homicide detective had been protecting victims and putting perpetrators behind bars. He made headlines helming some of the most horrific and high profile homicides and missing person cases in Australia\u2019s history. Including the investigation of William Tyrrell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An investigation that would put Jubelin on the other side of the force when he was found guilty in April of 2019 of unlawful conduct during the Tyrrell investigation, for what many could assume was just doing his job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Friday September 18, a court upheld his sentence for illegally recording four conversations during the William Tyrrell investigation, but Gary stands by his actions. We spoke to Jubelin just days before the judgment:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe charges that brought my demise from the police – and I put in my resignation before I was charged – and the charges relate to me recording four conversations. I always maintained I had a lawful right to do so and I gave my explanation from the outset the moment the allegations were put to me.<\/em><\/p>

\u201cIt was no secret that I recorded those conversations; the fact that I have been dragged through court so publicly, information has been released about an internal investigation by the police to the media so it\u2019s played out very heavily in the public.<\/em><\/p>

\u201cI don\u2019t want to walk up the stairs being the accused or the appellant in the situation.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Jubelin was convicted and fined $10,000 in April after a magistrate found he “acted illegally” when he recorded the conversations with a person of interest in the toddler’s disappearance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vale the distinguished police career of former detective chief investigator Gary Jubelin whose appeal today against a conviction of unlawful conduct in the line of #duty was rejected. A good man, and a good #cop, Gary walked the sometimes treacherous line between solving #crimes and truly supporting #victims when most had given up hope.
