Ah, the \u201890s. More than just the inspiration behind 70 per cent of the fashion trends that style icons follow today, it was the decade that shaped a lot of us. Instead of Kardashians, we had Spice Girls. In place of Stranger Things<\/em>, we had The Craft<\/em>. And instead of the Hemsworths, we had The Backstreet Boys. <\/p>\n

Life as an Aussie kid in the glorious 1990s was a little different to the experiences of those around the world and for that reason, we\u2019ve written up a list of the 17 most memorable parts of the decade. <\/p>\n

1. You still feel the urge to yell \u201cMarge, the rains are ‘ere!\u201d<\/em> whenever wet weather comes your way.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

2. Despite not understanding a word he said, Pingu<\/em> was life. <\/strong><\/p>\n

“Noot, noot”<\/em><\/p>\n

\"Pingu<\/p>\n

3. A Zooper Dooper on a hot afternoon was probably the best thing about Summer. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Except if you got stuck with that Deep Space Lime flavour, that was gross. <\/em><\/p>\n

4. That faceless doll thing from Lift Off<\/em> still haunts your dreams.  <\/strong><\/p>\n

BUT WHY WERE CHILDREN WATCHING THIS?<\/em><\/p>\n

5. You had a love\/hate relationship with your Furby. <\/strong><\/p>\n

What about how these guys would come alive and talk to you in the middle of the night? NOPE.<\/i><\/p>\n

6. Your bedroom was decked out with inflatable furniture that you probably got at the Easter Show. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Look, lying on a plastic sofa filled with air wasn\u2019t exactly comfortable, but it made you feel cool like that girl Amanda who had a two-storey house and the latest Adidas shoes, so that was reason enough to get involved with the trend. <\/em><\/p>\n

7. Cheez TV<\/em> was a morning staple. <\/strong><\/p>\n

8. You were absolutely<\/em> judged on your gel pen collection. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Don\u2019t even get us started on the metallic range… <\/em><\/p>\n

9. You made your parents look after your Tamagotchi after it was banned from school.<\/strong><\/p>\n

And all hell broke loose if it died on their watch. <\/i><\/p>\n

10. Goosebumps<\/em> titles made up <\/strong>like<\/strong> 90 <\/strong>per cent<\/strong> of your book collection.<\/strong><\/p>\n

That doesn\u2019t mean they didn\u2019t scare the crap out of you, though. <\/em><\/p>\n

11. Hair straighteners weren\u2019t a thing yet so girls would legit iron their hair. <\/strong><\/p>\n

This was 100 <\/em>per cent<\/em> not good for your locks, ladies. <\/em><\/p>\n

12. Every night you fell asleep under the stars \u2013 a ceiling full of glow-in-the-dark stars, that is.<\/strong><\/p>\n

No, you didn\u2019t ask your parents first. Yes, you ruined the paint job in your bedroom. <\/em><\/p>\n

13. Lunch-times were spent playing handball or marbles. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Things got competitive, too. <\/em><\/p>\n

14. You still know the lyrics to the theme song from Round The Twist<\/em>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cHave you ever, ever felt like this\u2026\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n

\"Round<\/p>\n

15. You learnt everything you know about your body from a giraffe named Harold. <\/strong><\/p>\n

\"Healthy<\/p>\n

16. You spent all your afternoons watching ABC Kids<\/em>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Seriously, why could none of the kids draw the logo properly in the ads, though?<\/em><\/p>\n

17. The Macarena would make an appearance at every <\/strong>school mate\u2019s<\/strong> birthday party. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Kinda wish that stuck around, TBH. <\/em><\/p>\n
