Truer than true. We are still not over the trauma from that one time we thought we\u2019d be okay having a cappuccino at 4pm and were counting the cracks in our bedroom ceiling until the wee hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, apparently, the whole, \u2018no coffee if you want to sleep\u2019 thing is a big fat lie. <em>Apparently<\/em>, coffee is actually the key to a good nap. And this isn\u2019t just us making stuff up, it\u2019s scientifically proven fact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Allow us to explain:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most of us experience a mid-day slump where we feel like we could just lay down and zonk out. While we typically view caffeine as something that stops us from sleeping soundly, it can be great to have right before that 20 minute power nap. Researchers have found that combining a nap with a caffeine leaves you better off as you wake feeling much more refreshed.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Author Daniel Pink discussed this research with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lifehacker.com.au\/\">Life Hacker,<\/a> explaining that it all has to do with how long the caffeine in coffee actually takes to hit your system: roughly 20 minutes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So the basic idea is that by the time you finish and wake from your 20 minute nap, the coffee helps wake you up even more and you feel ready to take on the world (or just all the emails you\u2019ve been procrastinating responding to).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CFwfcAxhrVZ\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"12\" style=\" background:#FFF; Why does having a nap make your afternoon coffee hit more effective?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adenosine molecules, a product of brain activity, gradually fit into receptors in your brain as you go about your day. When you\u2019re tired it\u2019s because these receptors are starting to fill up. Caffeine typically fits into these same receptors and typically has to fight with the adenosine receptors for spots in your brain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, if you have a short nap, you\u2019ll clear some of those receptors out &#8211; think of it like a quick sweep or light dusting of your brain, if you will. The nap frees up just enough receptors&nbsp; in time for the caffeine to come in and grab that prime real estate, making you feel extra fresh when you wake from your slumber.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The key here is just taking a short nap of 20 minutes.
