In a press conference held this morning, New Zealand\u2019s Director General of Health, Ashley Bloomfield announced there has been one new community case of COVID-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The news comes days after Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has announced a two-way travel bubble between Australia and New Zealand<\/a> will commence on 18 April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The positive case is believed to be a 24-year-old worker at a hotel quarantine facility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe person lives alone … The case travels to work with a colleague, and this colleague was informed last evening as well that they are a close contact, and they are self-isolating at home. His colleague has been fully vaccinated and will be having a swab taken today.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Bloomfield mentioned that this new COVID-19 case – and a case recorded weeks ago –  has prompted a review of the quarantine facilities at the Grand Millennium hotel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As for whether travel to New Zealand will still be on the cards? Gladys Berejiklian says she will not be closing the border to NSW.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe should accept that during this stage of the pandemic, there will be cases that pop up unexpectedly but just as I would expect people to keep borders open to New South Wales if we had an outbreak we thought we could manage, I would extend that courtesy to New Zealand as we did to Queensland and other states.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
