What is \u2018NAIDOC\u2019?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NAIDOC<\/a>\u00a0stands for the National Aboriginal and Islander Day Observance Committee. It is a significant week in the Australian calendar, and an especially important one for many Indigenous communities around the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is a week to celebrate Indigenous culture and heritage, commemorate our history, unify our communities, and share that with the rest of the nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When Is NAIDOC Week?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NAIDOC Week happens each year between the first and second Sundays in July.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many events occur during this time all around Australia. They typically involve music performances, art displays, talks, activities and learning opportunities for children and cultural workshops (see more on this below).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What Is The Theme For NAIDOC WEEK 2022?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year\u2019s theme is \u2018Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up!\u2019 which recognising the historic resistance of First Peoples and encouraging communities to continue the fight for justice and rights for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A poster is created each year in a national competition dating back to the \u201990s. The 2022 poster comp was won by Gudanji\/Wakaja woman,\u00a0Ryhia Dank<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Previous themes have included Treaty, Sacred Sites, Cultural revival is Survival, the Tent Embassy, Bringing Them Home and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How Can I Learn More?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are many ways to learn more about NAIDOC Week and about our First Nations people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
