You\u2019ll spot whale tails on Gadigal land of the Eora Nation from Barangaroo and Cockle Bay to Darling Quarter, near ICC Sydney, the Powerhouse Museum and the Australian National Maritime Museum, at The Star in Pyrmont as well as at Sydney Fish Markets. Over six big weeks, the western waterfront will come to life with thirty two-metre whale tails standing bright and tall – they’ll be hard to miss once you start looking for them. Thirty artists have been selected to paint a sculpture, each will reflect on place, on our Indigenous history and culture, on our connection to the harbour, and on our marine life to tell their own tales by painting a whale tail with their vibrant designs. Archibald prize winner Blak Douglas \u2013 a Sydney-based artist with Dhungatti heritage \u2013 joins a stellar collective of diverse talents including illustrator and animator Chris Yee, feminist and pro-body illustrator Pink Bits \u2013 as well as EORA TAFE students \u2013 making their mark in this exciting art trail. Thanks to the creativity of these thirty artists, together with Indigenous Curatorial Advisors Aunty Jo Selfe and Uncle Graham Toomey, you’re invited to come \u2018whale spotting\u2019 around Sydney\u2019s western harbour in a fun and immersive art experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There’ll be a chance to take a tour, meet the artists and win great prizes as part of a “Tag a Tail to Win” on socials, using the #sydneywhaletales, and a Tail Colouring Competition for the (big and little) kids.
