Ever cursed out your washing machine for a lagging, devastatingly long final minute of a cycle? You\u2019re not alone. Turns out many of us have fallen prey to the \u2018one minute left\u2019 lie perpetuated by the household appliance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While we\u2019ve been cursing out the appliance, others have been figuring out the why behind the irritating feature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking with Daily Mail,<\/em><\/a> <\/em>Vivien Fodor, laundry category manager for Hotpoint UK, revealed the reason behind the delay, saying it’s all down to the machine adjusting times to run more efficiently. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs the washing continues, the timer doesn’t always reflect the total time set at the start and, in the end, can differ by a few minutes.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere are a number of checks that a washing machine will do during its cycle. These are usually automated and are there to tell the machine if it is taking more or less time than expected to fill, wash or spin. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs a result, the machine will adjust the time to end at certain points of the cycle \u2013 sometimes sooner, sometimes later. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe only difference is that people only notice when it’s the latter!\u201d she adds. \u201cAs the parameters differ with some loads being heavier than others, such as bedding and towels, this automated function ensures your laundry is washed properly yet economically every time, regardless of the load type.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And as for dryers? The exact same. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
