Sydney turned it on for its local heroes on Monday night, with 75,000 frenzied fans in attendance for the Matildas\u2019 round of 16 match against \u00adDenmark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Central Station Clock Tower was lit up in green and gold, while bus stops, train stations and tram stops had messages of support for the Matildas as they embarked on the historic campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Matildas are through to the FIFA Women\u2019s World Cup quarter-finals after a 2-0 win over Denmark at a raucous Stadium Australia in Sydney.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Caitlin Foord and Hayley Raso hit the scoresheet either side of half-time on a brilliant night capped off by skipper Sam Kerr returning from injury – to joyous scenes in the crowd – for the final 15 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
